Google said that they are going to allow their users to tweak their ad settings to limit the amount of visible ad content in the alcohol and online gambling categories. First of all, the new functionality will be available to users of YouTube, a popular video-sharing platform. In the near future, the proposed tool will be available for other Google products.
According to Debbie Weinstein, vice president of Google, the innovations are a forced measure aimed at improving the safety of Internet users. Google listens to its users' feedback and strives to improve its platform by limiting the display of inappropriate content for all categories of people who are residents of certain countries.
As known, over the years, Google pursued a rather tough policy regarding gambling until 2017, when some online casino apps were allowed on Google Play, the company's official app store. Presumably, one of the reasons for the innovation is the recent fine imposed on Google by the Italian government for showing its residents an advertisement for a French casino. Initially available for YouTube, this functionality will be expanded to other Google platforms during 2021.
